Career

Wale Edun enjoyed a highly successful career in the financial industry, both domestically and internationally.

During his time as Head of Treasury and Deputy Head of Corporate Finance at Chase Merchant Bank, he oversaw the bank’s Treasury and Money Market functions and played a significant role in managing Capital Market and Financial Advisory operations for the local subsidiaries and affiliates of prominent multinational corporations.

Wale Edun boasts a lengthy and distinguished career in the financial industry, both nationally and internationally.

During his six-year tenure at Chase Merchant Bank (later Continental) in Lagos from 1980 to 1986, he gained valuable global experience during his secondment to Lehman Brothers and Chase Manhattan Capital Markets Corporation in New York, USA.

With over twenty-five years of experience in merchant banking, corporate finance, economics, and international finance, Mr. Edun joined the World Bank/IFC in Washington DC, US, through the elite Young Professionals program in September 1986.

He worked on several economic and financial packages for various countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, including the Dominican Republic and Trinidad, as well as Indonesia and India in the Far East.

Currently, he serves as the Chairman of Chapel Hill Denham Group, a position he has held since March 2008.

He co-founded Stanbic IBTC Plc (formerly Investment Banking & Trust Company Limited) upon his return to Nigeria in 1989 and founded Denham Management Limited in 1994. He also sits on the Board of various other companies.

In 1999, he was appointed as Honourable Commissioner for Finance in Lagos State, where he served for an unprecedented two terms under Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Aside from his professional accomplishments, Wale Edun is involved in numerous philanthropic efforts, including his role as the Chairman of Livewell Initiative, a health-focused non-governmental organization (NGO), and as a Trustee of Sisters Unite for Children, an NGO dedicated to supporting disadvantaged children.

He is also an International Trustee of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation and the Chairman of Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame, a non-profit youth development organization that operates amateur boxing in Lagos in partnership with the Lagos Amateur Boxing Association.

Wale Edun, a close associate of former Nigerian Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, and a former colleague of Prof. Yemi Osinbajo in Lagos state, is married to Amy Adwoa Edun (née Appiah), a Ghanaian.

His son Adetomiwa Edun is an actor in the UK film industry, while another son, Tobi Edun, is married to Folake Fajemirokun, daughter of Chief Oladele Fajemirokun, a successful business magnate, entrepreneur, investor, venture capitalist, and philanthropist who is also the Chairman of Xerox Company.

Interestingly, Chief Oladele’s wife, Edith Korantema Fajemirokun (Koranteng), is also a Ghanaian.

In October 2015, Wale Edun was among the Ministerial nominees selected for screening by the National Assembly during the administration of President Buhari. However, since then, not much has been heard about him.
